LINK Internship
The LINK internship is for all the juniors and it is a way for the students to see what they might want to do in the future as a career. It is a requirement to graduate high school. Many students are able to go out of state or even out of the country for their internship. Since this is a three week long internship, there are things that the students do during their internship. This is mainly logging their hours and also thinking about a project to make. In LINK, the students have to make a project that needs to be exhibited at an exhibition, this project should be something that is authentic to their internship, for example if a student did their internship at a bike shop, then they could put an entire bike together for their project.
For my internship, I chose to go to a hospital and observe what it was like to run a hospital, I was also able to see the ins and the outs of what goes on behind the scenes. I was able to observe everything from surgeries all the way to what it is like to work at a desk job. My internship was very interesting, since I was in the Animas Surgical Hospital, I got the opportunity to see different professions and to experience what I liked and what I did not like. During my time there, my schedule was different than most of the other student schedules, so everyday I would go to a different department of the hospital to experience what they had to offer that day. My personal favorite department was being in the Diagnostic Imaging department. I liked this department because I did not really know what I wanted to do, originally I wanted to become an RN (Registered Nurse), however that changed because I realized that I do not want to have this sort of responsibility of a patient, so imaging was where I wanted to go.

LINK Project
For my LINK project I decided to make an info graphic on what the expectations are of getting an x-ray and what to do afterwards. I thought that it was a very straight forward idea of what a patient can expect.

The most useful skills that I had before going into LINK was being able to focus multiple things at once. I used this skill mostly in the Materials Department, running around getting stock items and stocking them all and then going in the back to restock new products. I also think that I developed this skill during my LINK when being in the internal medicine department. Learning how to get patients in and out quickly really helped and I am glad that I learned that. I think that the most important skill that I learned when I was there was having the opportunity to learn how to take vital signs of a person. Learning this was huge for me and knowing what I am looking at on the monitor is also another small skill that I learned with it that came in handy when telling the nurse the vital sign details. A challenge that I faced during LINK was not having a full schedule to go by everyday. I got through this by asking the person I was with that day what the plan was so I knew what I was getting into. I think that this internship was amazing, I think that students should have the opportunity to see what it is like to be in the medical field and to get hands-on experience to open up to what they want to do, or if they do not want to. Having this internship really helped me narrow down what I want to do for the future. My plan for the coming years is to go to school to become a Radiology Tech with a Computed Tomography certification. I already have a school that I want to go to and I have a plan for my senior year to jump start my journey.
